You are ignoring population density. New Jersey has far more people per square mile than Florida etc. not saying that masks prevent COVID but I do have anecdotal evidence that they may have some benefit. For instance I personally know two pizza owners who never closed and served literally thousands of customers in their small shops from March of 2020 through to when mask mandates were rescinded. Neither got COVID during the year they wore masks but both got it within two weeks after they and most of their customers tossed their masks in the trash. Coincidence ?? Maybe but we’ll never know. Both got very sick but luckily seem to be on the mend.

That northern NJ is dense and should have many more deaths because they’re so close to each other?
OK, but it still doesn’t negate the % killed of the whole population. NJ still higher than FL, because its total pop is so much less.
