What I have alays thought for years was that when a player is recruited to play in college - no matter what the sport - just pay the recruit what it costs for a years tuition. But he/she does not attend classes. He just trains and plays for his/her sport. If the recruit does want to go to college and attend classes, than that recruit uses the money paid him to pay for classes. Also, if the recruit decides on that route, no special attention to that recruit. The recruit passes or fails with no help from the athletic program.
It is a nice Catholic co-ed school which is located in Santa Ana, California...Nice facilities...But, the school is not in a great neighborhood...I think that kids from other fine cities in Orange County attend that school...
The school has good sports teams, male and female...
I do watch college baseball...Very few college baseball players get a "full ride"...I am not certain how college baseball players would get paid...College baseball is not popular like basketball or football...
I believe Maharishi made the call on this years ago, I guess he was right.
My kids got academic and leadership scholarships. If students like them could have a side gig developing a brand or a product using what they learned at school, why shouldn’t an athlete?
I believe Maharishi made the call on this years ago, I guess he was right. I really miss him.
Our nearby University’s baseball coach was asked why there were no or so few black players on his team.
His answer was, “they hope to go directly to MLB via the draft.” We don’t recruit many because they can’t do the work required to pass courses and I won’t set them up to fail!”
The NCAA will regret ending the amateur status of college athletes. Stay tuned for the show.
Probably half the schools playing D1 football will quit. There will be no way to compete against the likes of Bama and their $50+ million rosters. Schools will lose a lot of sponsor money to players, too. You’ll end up with a quasi NFL college football league with 30 or so schools. RIP college football.
and when Arizona was paying players and NC was making up false courses, nothing basically happened but boy did the University of the Pacific get their knuckles slammed, for some little thing...
