Police say that a man attempted to stab to death a social worker on Friday afternoon before barricading himself in his apartment.
In a news release, the Holyoke Police Department said that city resident Alfredo Rivera, 50, has been charged with attempted murder and other assault charges after allegedly stabbing a 61-year-old Center for Human Development clinician repeatedly.
Police arrived at the area of Ivy Avenue and Dwight Street at 4:30 p.m. on Friday after receiving reports of a stabbing. There, they found the victim profusely bleeding from his upper body, with bystanders giving him first first aid. He was eventually transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he was in stable condition as of late Friday night.
“The victim had been viciously stabbed multiple times in the chest area,” the Holyoke Police Department stated. “The victim stated Rivera had ‘jumped’ into the rear of the his ... vehicle and stated, ‘Are you ready to die?’ Rivera immediately attacked the victim with a knife, plunging the knife multiple times into the victim’s upper body.”
Police said that they located Rivera barricaded in his apartment, and that officers eventually decided to force entry.
“As the officers made entry, Rivera rushed the officers with two knives over his head,” the department stated. “Less lethal force was immediately used against Rivera and he was knocked to the floor. Rivera began to stab himself multiple times. Officers disarmed the knives from Rivera to stop Rivera from stabbing himself.”

Sorry bout what happened to the social worker, but I still have to laugh.

People may think this is funny but it’s sad. Sad that some cities are putting “social workers” in violent situations. It’s sad that some cities are considering this. And sad that schools are teaching classes to young dumb people who will get hurt like this person was. It’s all just sad.
What's sad is that city taxpayers are going to pay the settlement to this social worker, often in the hundreds of thousands, and pay for their early "retirement" because they were put in a situation they shouldn't have been.
Dems want morons and that’s all they want...To keep power they would destroy their own children/grandchildren...They don’t care about anyone’s safety....NO ONE......

They should have sent in a second social worker to save the first one...and then as many as it takes, just let the bodies keep piling up.
What Holyoke needs is the Connecticut river to rise up out of its banks and wash all the filth away - human and otherwise -and then start over.

At least they’re actually earning their upper middle-class lifestyle now. Maybe people will be less eager to sponge off taxpayers in useless, do-nothing jobs.

Sounds legit. Used to work in the old days.
I don’t think this was one of those scenarios. I think it was a normal social worker visit.
But the point is valid.

Instead of sending second social worker, the appropriate response would be to send in a Community Organizer.
