1619 Project founder Nikole Hannah-Jones REJECTS UNC's tenure offer and will go to Howard University instead after protesters brawled during board meeting and she claimed 'powerful donor' blocked her from lifetime role

Creator of the New York Times' 1619 Project Nikole Hannah-Jones has dramatically rejected the University of North Carolina's offer of tenured position and will be accepting a role at Howard University instead.

Hannah-Jones announced Tuesday she will become a member of the historically black university's Cathy Hughes School of Communication and will also lead its newly created Center for Journalism and Democracy to train the next generation of African-American reporters.

One week ago, trustees at UNC-Chapel Hill approved Hannah-Jones' tenure, capping weeks of tension that began when her application was halted because she did not come from a 'traditional academic-type background'.

Statement from the faculty at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism:

Hussman Faculty shared their reaction within a few minutes of her announcement, saying, “Today, we learned that Ms. Nikole Hannah-Jones has declined a tenured appointment as the Knight Chair in Race and Investigative Journalism at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media.”

“While disappointed, we are not surprised. We support Ms. Hannah-Jones’ choice. The appalling treatment of one of our nation’s most decorated journalists by her own alma mater was humiliating, inappropriate and unjust.”

We will be frank: It was racist.”

This “journalist” is a simple race hustler, nothing more, aided and abetted by the wine and brie crowd at UNC.

I wonder if this was an arranged outcome with the school? Either way, good for the school that she’s not going, and they should get rid of the board approved her, they have no academic credibility.

So, UNC is spared the tenure of the race huckster in a serious academic institution? Well UNC is not a serious academic institution! They ran a fake class scam for 18 years so athletes could play ball without doing academic work!

UNC escapes another embarrassment, due more to luck than due to their decision making processes.

And why should any institute of learning hire anyone with such a lack of intellectual integrity, and who produces such absurd sludge? Not that they actually have that rigor, but they should not hire such.

Why? Because UNCheat lacks any semblance of intellectual integrity. See post #25.

Not Harvard; Howard.

These days there's hardly a dime's worth of difference.

I am surprised this “historically black” university hasn’t changed its name yet. It’s named after a white guy from Maine, a military man, no less.

MY LAUGH FOR TODAY!!! Thanks for posting that this vile conceited goofball has retreated to the black ghetto of Howard University. This f’ng Ugly critter irritates me so much! Anyone black or white with a flop mop of dyed red hair is 1000% flake. A refugee from the Barnum & Bailey Circus

Also means the NC taxpayers will not be paying her tenured salary for the next 4 decades. Hallelujah!

Emphasis on "hustler". Higher education is such a scam these days and they all got their salaries during Covid lockdowns. Grad student professors who teach on a contingency basis, they probably did not get paid.

The weak kneed UNC is let off the hook. But what does it say about Harvard — nothing good.
