A violent July Fourth weekend featured at least 118 people shot in Chicago and New York City combined, according to reports.

The historically violent weekend for Chicago saw 92 shot, including at least 16 fatalities, the most violent weekend of the year thus far, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

New York City saw 26 people shot, including two fatalities, Fox News reported.

What if a normal citizen had to go to a hospital and the staffs were working on stopping the bleeding and infection of 118 gunshot victims? Maybe lie on the floor in the linen room until they treat the first 75 people ahead of you?

I remember decades ago when People Magazine ran a sevral page story on the astronomical cost to us of the young blacks in gangs who get slashed, stabbed or shot.

One picture and story detailed a smirking thug and the long list of extraordinary lifesaving methods with machines and specialists that left him alive in the hospital bed. In terms of that day's dollars it was some huge sum. He had no insurance, of course.

And his case was one of hundreds a year in the story, all on the hospital and the taxpayers' tab.
