Its worse than that - people do not have to actually commit a crime, just being too influential is enough because no one can be more influential than the CCP.
If a person even vaguely says something that could be stretched - no matter how thin - and interpreted as having a criticism of the CCP, is targeted.
Opposition is what the CCP says it is and that can change at any moment; what’s ignored today, will warrant a police visit tomorrow.
The CCP is an extremely paranoid and fragile entity.
