?Eight years? My active duty commitment was 4 years, West Pointers had a 5 year commitment. I've never heard of an 8 year commitment, unless it was for doctors whose medical degree was paid for by the military.

Are you forgetting your reserve obligation? In general, your total obligation should have been eight years.

Chapter 2

2–1. General

Officers entering military service must complete a total of 8 years military service obligation. Service will be on active duty or in the Reserve Components, in either enlisted or officer status (10 USC 651). (See tables 3–1 through 3–4 for ADSOs.) Instructions for computing ADSOs are contained in paragraph 3–2.

Thanks for the correction. I didn’t pay much attention to it, as I did over 8 years active. Never did any Reserve time, the desire just wasn’t there.
