Afghans looters ransack Bagram air base and hawk basketballs, stereo speakers, laptops, and bicycle helmets after US troops bugged out in the dead of night

Afghan locals started hawking contraband after looters ransacked Bagram air base over the weekend

Bicycles, helmet, laptop computers, and other pieces of scrap were sold after the looting over the weekend

Massive base includes 50-bed hospital and giant hangar size tents filled with supplies such as furniture

Americans also left a fleet of SUVs without the keys to start them as well as hundreds of armored vehicles

Since 2001, Bagram airbase north of Kabul has served as a linchpin for the US war in Afghanistan

At its peak in 2012, Bagram saw more than 100,000 U.S. and NATO troops pass through sprawling compound

Last week, last US soldiers left the base as the 20-year-long war in Afghanistan comes to an end

The soldiers allegedly left without telling local officials, meaning its gates were left unsecured

On Friday morning, locals moved in under the cover of darkness and looted several buildings

US-backed Afghan forces gained control of the base, but it remains a shell of its former self

Photos taken on Friday show the base eerily quiet and almost abandoned

There are now fears it will be taken over by the Taliban who are gaining increasing control across Afghanistan

A brilliant example of tactical genius from the Commander in Chief.

Can you imagine the diplomatic nightmare if they had announced they were leaving before doing so ?

No, you have to lay this debacle at the feet of GW Bush and his neocon warmonger pals. They are the ones who started this lost cause and deserve to live in shame the rest of their miserable lives. Anybody hear from Wolfowitz or Perle or any of the other geniuses lately? No, well, they should be forced to apologize to every family who lost a loved one or had one come home maimed for their hubris.

Barack Hussein Obama was the one who ramped up the war in Afghanistan and said that Afghanistan was the RIGHT war.

Biden and Obama own this disaster.

Meanwhile Pocky-stand was protecting Osama Bin Ladin.

The one that realizes that this war was doomed from the start. GW and his pals thought they could change the world, and instead just got too many good people killed and spent $5 trillion.

We couldn’t beat a guerrilla movement in Vietnam and ditto Afghanistan. But we likely won’t learn this lesson anytime soon.

Bush was the dolt who sent troops. The US should have bombed those mountains flat and left. Occupation was stupid.

I remember the brilliant Richard Perle claiming that the mobs in Afghanistan and Iraq would greet our troops with flowers and candy. I think it was more like the opium flower and IEDs. Perle also said both efforts would be a “cakewalk”. He, Wolfowitz, Bolton, Will, and the other neocons that advocated these wars but never served themselves should be sent to Bagram as the “rear guard” in more ways than one.

Frankly would have been better to just let the Russians have it. They probably would have killed off Bin Laden before he did any damage.

It was obviously a well-thought out plan. Another powerful nation leaves Afghanistan in the middle of the night.

Imagine if Trump were still in office. The media would have covered this like a Walmart looting after a hurricane. There would be endless talking heads mentioning defeat, etc, to tie it all to Trump.

Barely a whimper from the media. So many lives lost so that the state dept and UN bureaucrats along with contractors and the military industrial complex could benefit.

Great job guys, we really built a Western democracy didn’t we?

For the record, I am glad we are out of there and could care less about the trash.

Dec. 2, 2009 12:01 am ET

WEST POINT, N.Y. — President Barack Obama announced Tuesday a surge of 30,000 troops to Afghanistan, along with plans to begin withdrawing the reinforcements in 18 months — a potentially high-risk political and military strategy...

...Obama derided the war in Iraq as a senseless and costly diversion from the “right” war in Afghanistan...
