UPenn pres gets Biden ambassadorship nod (complaint says U/P failed to disclose China $millions)

Joe Biden nominated the China-linked president of U of Pennsylvania to be US ambassador to Germany. Amy Gutmann is the Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Political Science.....president of UPenn since 2004.

The NLPC filed a complaint against UPenn, alleging $22 million in "anonymous" donations for the Biden Center and $70 million from China in total. "They stonewalled all inquiries into the id's of Chinese donors who made $22 million anonymous donations," NLPC Chairman Peter Flaherty told Fox News. "We think it’s time for her to answer the question and identify the donors."

The Biden Center opened March 2017, a year before Biden announced his 2020 presidential campaign. The complaint charges that in 2017, out of a total of $7.7 million in donations from China, $500,000 came from anonymous donors. After Biden launched his campaign in 2018, the total jumped to $27.1 million, with anonymous donors giving $15.8 million. And in 2019, Chinese donors gave $26.9 million to the center, $6 million anonymously. "Academia is awash in Chinese cash," Flaherty said. "It’s time for administrators to start answering questions about it."

And Gutmann is not the first person linked to UPenn’s Biden Center and the Chinese donation controversy ... NLPC member Tom Anderson predicted that "every person" there would be a potential Biden administration member.

"This center was an incubation for Biden’s foreign policy team and it’s a natural place for his choice of secretary of state," Tom Anderson, director of the public integrity project for the NLPC, told Fox News shortly after Biden announced Antony Blinken as his secretary of state.

Blinken had been the Biden Center’s managing director from 2017 until he left to join Biden’s presidential campaign in 2019. But he was never forced to answer questions about the Chinese donations during his confirmation hearings.

When Joe Biden announced he was opening a foreign policy center at the University of Pennsylvania, the goals for the project were ambitious.

At its founding in 2018, Biden described the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement as “a place where policymakers here and abroad will know they can be in touch with some of the best minds.”

The center is one of several organizations Biden founded since leaving the White House in 2017, including the domestic policy-focused Biden Institute at the University of Delaware and the Biden Cancer Initiative, all launched in 2017. All three entities have refused to reveal the sources of their funding, a potential landmine for the Democrats’ presumptive presidential nominee that raises questions about the influence of individual, corporate, and foreign donations on the presidential candidate.

The lack of transparency has drawn the attention of a watchdog group that is now demanding that the federal government investigate whether foreign money has flowed to the Biden Center in Philadelphia.

A week and a day into a Biden administration and there is already more evidence of Chinese influence being revealed than the entire body of “evidence” presented in the Russia probe against President Trump. The latest very questionable circumstance happened in 2017 when the University of Pennsylvania formed the Penn Biden Center.

In the 37 months prior to the center’s formation, the university received $21,187,333 from China. In the 39 months after the formation of the Penn Biden Center, donations from China more than tripled to $71,274,675. Republican Representatives James Comer, Jim Jordan, and Virginia Foxx sent a follow-up letter to the university yesterday after not receiving a reply to their initial inquiry.

At the heart of this mess is Hunter Biden, the son of the President, who’s alleged dealings with the Chinese Communist Party have drawn a federal investigation. Moreover, there are reasons to believe based on documents found on Hunter Biden’s laptop as well as eyewitness testimony that his father is vulnerable to coercion from Beijing.

The Republican members of Congress laid out the reason for their requests in a letter sent to the president of the university:

On August 3, 2020, we wrote to you regarding unreported and anonymous foreign donations to the University of Pennsylvania from foreign adversaries such as Russia, China, Qatar, and Iran. We have yet to receive a response. In light of your university’s close relationship with the Biden family and recent revelations regarding their potentially illicit ties to foreign adversaries including China, we request an immediate response to this inquiry.

On December 9, 2020, both Hunter Biden and the Biden-Harris Transition Team admitted that Hunter Biden was under federal investigation for his “tax affairs.” Reporting indicates the criminal investigation’s primary focus is whether Hunter Biden violated tax and money laundering laws in his foreign business dealings, particularly in China. Notwithstanding significant counterintelligence concerns, these facts raise serious questions regarding conflicts of interest and the integrity of the Biden family’s ties to China. Understanding whether the University of Pennsylvania’s Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement (Biden Center) received funds from China or other adversarial nations at the behest of the Biden family or future Biden Administration officials will shed light on the depth and breadth of the potential improper influence these nations enjoy over the Biden family.

On February 1, 2017, University of Pennsylvania announced the formation of the Biden Center. In the 37 months of available reporting prior to the announcement of the Biden Center, the University received about $21,187,333 from China. In contrast, in the 39 months of available reporting since the announcement of the Biden Center, the University received $72,274,675 from China—an increase of $51,087,342 in a similar time frame.

For some time, we have been concerned about the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) efforts to use its strategic investments to turn American college campuses into indoctrination platforms for American students. In fact, Liu Yunshan, the former Head of Central Propaganda Department of China, pointed to the proliferation of CCP infiltration of U.S. education as part of a plan to “coordinate the efforts of overseas and domestic propaganda, [and] further create a favorable international environment for [China].” At the very least, increased CCP influence in the U.S. allows a window into U.S. culture, infrastructure, and planning—providing a gathering ground for Chinese intelligence agencies.

The CCP’s actions calls into question whether U.S. institutes of higher education receiving federal taxpayer dollars should be allowed to accept funds from China, the CCP, or other affiliated organizations.

It’s bad enough that the current President of the United States is likely compromised by the Chinese Communist Party. It’s worse that nearly everything he has touched, including the Penn Biden Center, may be compromised as well.

While the U.S. media frequently look the other way at President Joe Biden’s verbal and intellectual foibles, foreign media have questioned the president’s mental acuity. Australian reporters have lamented that “the leader of the free world” is “struggling,” “barely cogent,” and a “human corpse” who has sunken deep into “cognitive decline.”

Those quotations come from Sky News Australia, the center-right cable news network launched in 1996 by NewsCorp Australia. Its collection of hosts and journalists have told their growing audience what many in the U.S. media have refused to say: Joe Biden’s declining intellectual capabilities threaten all Western democracies.

In March, Sky News Australia host Cory Bernardi compared the Biden-Harris administration to a “reality show where the Democrats put up a barely cogent candidate for president just so that they could enjoy the spoils of office for four years. And, of course, it features an all-star cast of the politically semi-lucid.”

Federal authorities investigating Hunter Biden’s taxes are examining his business dealings in China, according to a source familiar with the inquiry.

The investigation, which Hunter Biden announced Wednesday, was opened in 2018, the year before his father announced his candidacy for president, the source said. The inquiry was already in motion when William Barr was appointed attorney general.

Hunter Biden joined the board of directors at a Chinese investment company in 2013, when his father was vice president. Facing intensifying attacks from President Donald Trump and his allies during the presidential campaign, Hunter Biden announced in October 2019 that he planned to step down from the board at the end of the month.

At the time, his attorney, George Mesires, wrote that Hunter Biden worked as an unpaid board member for BHR Equity Investment Fund Management Co. “based on his interest in seeking ways to bring Chinese capital to international markets.”

“To date, Hunter has not received any compensation for being on BHR’s board of directors,” Mesires said. “He has not received any return on his investment; there have been no distributions to BHR shareholders since Hunter obtained his equity interest.”

The Biden team declined to comment on the revelation that the federal investigation was focused on Hunter Biden’s dealings in China. The Justice Department also declined to comment.

In a statement released Wednesday, Hunter Biden said: “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.”

Biden, President-elect Joe Biden’s eldest son, was a target of relentless attacks during the campaign. Trump and his allies alleged that Hunter Biden used his father’s influence to enrich himself through business deals in Ukraine and China.

Hunter Biden’s dealings in both countries drew scrutiny throughout the campaign, but no evidence has emerged showing that he or his father engaged in any wrongdoing.

Hunter Biden pledged last year that he would not work for any foreign-owned companies if his father won the presidency.
