Not very good history with population exchanges. Hindus and Muslims going to/from India/Pakistan, ethnic Germans leaving Poland and Czechoslovakia come to mind.

The bloody population exchanges you refer to accomplished the purposes they set out to do - they removed one people who could not peacefully coexist with another to a separate territory.

10%, maybe slightly more, of the descendants of African slaves in North America can coexist and prosper living among the very different whites.

But many, many of them cannot.

It's time to stop pretending. However bad, however bloody, a population exchange would be, it would be better than what lies right down the road.

They are not going back to Africa. That's not their home.
