I better get it out there, then: when I was 10, I was Willie Mays for Halloween. I wore the Giants uniform with #24 on the back, and my mom used burnt cork to blacken my face. I'm not apologizing or resigning from anything, Willie was my first sports hero, and this was nearly 60 years ago.

It's come back to haunt me, though. My 10 YO grandson is playing baseball this summer, and his jersey number is 24. I thought it was because of all those great stories and recollections I had of Willie. He set me straight: he's wearing #24, because that's Corey Kispert's number, his favorite Gonzaga basketball player.

BTW, Corey is likely to be a lottery pick in the upcoming draft. He'll be one of the few reasons why I'll watch the NBA, as he joins fellow Zags such as Kelly Olynyk and Jalen Suggs in the pros.
