And this touches on what has frustrated me from the very beginning. Namely, that while this is a serious virus, we have treated it as if it were the return of the Bubonic plague from Medieval Europe. The vast majority of people will survive even if they do get the virus. And now they are pushing the Delta variant as being a serious threat, but it is even less lethal than the original virus.

I’ve even been hearing that the symptoms seem less severe - more like common cold, less persistent cough, difficulty breathing or loss of taste/smell.
But it is possible that the lower death rate is due to the protective effect of vaccines among the vulnerable. The unvaccinated are very disproportionally younger and healthier. It might be interesting to compare fatality rates from Delta between high and low vaccination Countries.
