Crime and criminals are not the target of these laws. This is a combination of Bay Area progressive grandstanding, and a genuine effort to de-normalize gun ownership, and to re-direct the law away from actual crime, as it’s been understood, toward their wrong-thinking neighbors.
California is a weird place. When I was growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, it really was a bastion of mostly small-l libertarian “do your own thing”. Lots of people with that attitude still live here, and millions vote for conservative candidates. We’re outvoted now, but there are quite a few left. And up until the present, though powerless, we were pretty much left alone. Now just the thought that a neighbor might not be on board with the woke BLM DSA agenda is intolerable to them. They want to either drive us out, or turn us in to criminals, so they can direct the force of the law against us.
They aren’t stupid, just evil.
They don’t care about the criminals, they want tremendous crime.
They are collapsing the system and they just want guns out of law abiding hands for full control.
We’re making it easy.
