California is moving ahead with a dramatic reopening of the economy this week as COVID-19 numbers remain low and more people get vaccinated.
In this week's "In Focus SoCal," host Tanya McRae sits down with Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian, chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, to talk about the economic recovery in Southern California and what we can expect in the next year.
"Tourism was devastated during COVID," he said. "At one point, our hotels were at lower than 20% occupancy, and we expect that they'll be back over 70% by this summer. And that's a huge driver of our local economy and jobs."

Go to CA? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Spend any money in CA? BWAHAHAHAHAHA.
Exception: Will pay to sit in and watch the executions of the Gov and the legislature.
And Hollywood.
And Silicon Valley.
And San Francisco.
Tourism never slowed down here. Nearly half the neighborhood homes are now rented out to tourists due to high TX taxes. We could barely get up and down the streets for all the tourists’ vehicles willy nilly. Tourist dollars also went to restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, boat and water toy rentals, and yes, even the oh so essential nail salons that never closed. Maid services and yard crews were going full blast. Construction crews were also making a killing.
FYI, boat and jet ski manufacturers are behind on their orders. Not due to shutting down but due to so many orders.
Barf, a boat with a gay pride flag just went by. On the other hand, the neighbors finally took down their Biden, gay pride and BLM banners after they found out those got them bad ratings on vrbo.
If the cruise industry sinks who cares?
Question: “How in the hell do we have a budget surplus and such low unemployment when Tourism dropped by 80% and cities such as San Francisco lost 58% of their small businesses?”
Wasn’t the COVID relief bill really just a big bailout for blue state and local governments?
