I hated Communism and would gladly fight against it, in fact, I spent 22 years of my life doing so—Well, 7 of those years were actually post The Fall of the USSR, but still.

Obviously, it can be said that “it takes one to know one” but I think this goes deeper than that. Russia may be trying to triangulate the obviously precarious situation with China. Russian Communism differs from China’s in several significant ways. I think Vlad just wants to “own” Europe through their energy monopoly, whereas China wants to own the world, period. Since Joe’s buttinski is owned by Peking, Vlad may be trying to hedge his bets against Joe and Xi to remain relevant..
