Why did Great Britain exit Hong Kong? Was it supposed to be politically correct? I’m sure the residents of Hong Kong wish Great Britain still controlled the joint. Without Great Britain, Hong Kong wouldn’t have had a democracy.

Because they held it under a 100 year lease, which was expiring. Unlike Taiwan, Hong Kong had always been a part of China.

A wag once noted, that wherever the French ruled, they left better cuisine behind, wherever the Spanish ruled they were left with better parties, and wherever the British ruled, they were left with better Governments.
