Still not convinced that this guy is not a pseudo defector and is seeding disinformation that will be readily believed by our hopelessly politicized “security” agencies.

If that's the case, why would he not go to the FBI or CIA instead of the DIA? If he is a double agent he wouldn't be worried about either of these agencies being compromised by the CCP.

Because sharing with a credible agency disinformation which will eventually be learned by FBI,CIA and NSA is a good way to seed.
