Democrats plot next steps on new election rules with a focus on Georgia
CNN ^ | June 23 | By Manu Raju, CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent

(CNN) Senate Democrats, stymied in their push to mandate a major revamp of election laws, are beginning to map out their next steps to draw attention to the issue and to put the focus on a critical battleground state: Georgia.

The Democratic-led Senate Rules Committee plans to move ahead with a series of hearings, including in Georgia, calling for passage of new legislation -- as well as to spotlight Republican-led efforts at the state level to enact restrictive measures in the wake of the growth of mail-in voting during the 2020 election season.

At the center of the list: Georgia, the state that President Joe Biden narrowly won and that elected two Democratic senators, effectively giving their party control of the Senate -- and prompting former President Donald Trump's outrage and conspiracy theories that the election was somehow stolen. Since then, Republicans in Georgia have pushed through new voting restrictions in a state that could again determine the Senate majority in the 2022 midterm elections.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who chairs the Senate Rules Committee, plans to hold a field hearing in Georgia, along with a series of other hearings that she says will draw attention to GOP efforts at the state level and renew calls for the Democratic push for a broader bill at the federal level.

"This fight has just begun," Klobuchar said in a statement to CNN. "That's why, as chairwoman of the Rules Committee, I am announcing a series of hearings on the urgent need to pass critical voting, campaign finance, and ethics reforms, including a field hearing in Georgia to hear testimony on the recently enacted legislation to restrict voting in the state."

Pure political theatre, full of talking points and no factual evidence.

Shower them with ridicule.

I am a long time resident of GA and have worked elections since Reagan ran.

Georgia needed to put controls back on its elections.

What happen last year was a travesty, and much of it was legal — WAS.

Fed critters invading a southern state for a Senate hearing. Inappropriate.

HR-1 is nothing but Marxist Democrat electioneering - PERIOD!

This would not only reimplement the Federal restrictions of Reconstruction but would also add easy cheating methods along the way!

For those who don’t remember, in the South, the Reconstructionrestrictions were so severe that if the school in which we were scheduled to vote was burned down, we had to go to a Federal Committee and Federal Court and BEG THEM to let us move our voting to another building! Yes, it was literally this constraining!

And it would be WORSE when those decisions are being made by a one-party cabal led by FU Schumer and Nazi Pelosi!

They can hold “hearings” all day and all night, we are still going to keep tightening election laws to massively reduce ballot fraud and ballot stealing.

Mail In Voting = Voter Fraud
Early Voting = Voter Fraud
Rank Choice Voting = Voter Fraud
Same Day Registration = Voter Fraud
No ID Required To Vote = Voter Fraud
Resisting Forensic Audits = Voter Fraud

Yep - the real story here is the Rats absolutely losing control of their unhinged and mentally ill leftist base. Expect riots in Georgia after the “field hearing” or probably DURING the hearing.

Ballot Harvesting is a Rat election fraud staple.

They wanted it, badly.

All of their voting garbage was opposite to the Carter Baker Commission on election integrity.

They were that enamored with Election Theft 2020.

I wouldn’t be so shock-sure, SJ. We didn’t think Obamacare would pass either. And just look at what they’ve gotten away with since then.

The agreements made outside the legislature were _not_ legal. I don't understand why that's not being an issue.

BTW I voted for Reagan in Georgia too :)

The Republicans did not go nearly far enough in Georgia. As the massive massive fraud in Fulton County is now coming to light, they need to pass another election integrity law to:
- completely ban drop boxes,
- ban mail in voting for all but those who can show real need,
- require each precinct to report how many ballots it has at the end of each day,
- set a cutoff for mail in ballots of election day only with any arriving late to not be counted,
- require multi party poll watchers to be present at all times with a right to MEANINGFULLY observe...this means close enough that they can clearly read and challenge each individual ballot
- video and livestream the vote count in each precinct with an overhead camera.
- require an audit of the vote by a competent 3rd party after each election.

Exactly. ALL such agreements by Governors or Secretaries of state or orders by state courts are in violation of the Elections Clause of the US Constitution which clearly states that the LEGISLATURE of each state is to make the election law.

Besides that....separation of powers? The executive does not get to make law by getting their buddies to sue them and them then agreeing in settlement of the lawsuit to do something the executive branch does not have the power to do. IF that is not the case, every executive at every level can just use this little trick to completely bypass the legislature on everything. The law is then whatever the Governor/President says it is.

EXACTLY!

The Marxist Democrats already have Manchin shaking in his limp-peckered loafers, and half of the GOP-E Congress Critters would rather look good for the next camera or lobbying job than do what is right, correct, moral, and Constitutional!

A great example is my own Senator, John Cornyn! I have not voted for that RINO since he and Kay Bailout Hutchinson both voted to give taxpayer dollars to poorly ran, Democrat-voting, union businesses! If John is patting you on the back, just know he is looking for a soft spot for his knife!

We didn't think Obamacare would pass either.

The Dems had a filibuster proof 60 seat majority in the US Senate at the time. They are not even close to that now.
