A Democratic mayoral primary that mostly played out in the tiny confines of a square box on Zoom spun into full Technicolor berserk in the race’s final days.
Candidates flung accusations of racism, anti-Semitism, and sexism at one another with abandon, even calling into question the integrity of the ranked-choice system some are using to form strategic alliances. But the tumult made it clearer what kind of mayor each of the top-tier candidates would be.
There was Eric Adams, who is running as such a law-and-order candidate that he received support over the weekend from both Rudy Giuliani and one of the few Republicans in the City Council, rushing to the scene of high-profile shootings and stabbings and accusing his opponents of conspiring to keep a “person of color” out of City Hall. There was Kathryn Garcia, ever the technocrat, trying to find efficiencies in the ranked-choice system to jack up her chances of winning. There was Andrew Yang, banking on pure exuberance and eliding the questions of whether or not he has the experience to govern. And there was Maya Wiley, continuing to stoke the passions of the left, which she has long hoped would carry her over the finish line.

Primary Day in NYC. Adams seems to be the best of the lot. Wiley will be a worse disaster than DeBlasio.

I thought NY didn’t want mug shots shown.
Oh, wait.....
They’re suspects for now.

All we need now is for Dean Wormer to shake his head, walk back and forth and dish out insults to each one. “And Mr. Yang, the intelligence leader. IQ80 and a D student. You lead the pack. And no felonies. Congratulations.”
Still no way to go through life.
I am glad someone is trying out ranked voting, aka the Australian ballot.
It will be interesting to see how many iterations it goes through.
Looks like a Bull Dyke standing behind her Maid, Butler, and Accountant.
Dems must be proud.
LOL
You are onto something.
Not sure about that. First, Adams, a former police captain was not endorsed by the Captains Union, which endorsed Yang. Second, Adams has been throwing the racism victim card around.
Somebody wrote, that if you are going to be voting for NYC mayor, I recommend that you move.
"The leading Democratic candidates for New York mayor spent the final day of the primary campaign Monday stoking racial and ethnic divisions. Black front-runner Eric Adams accused two rivals of trying to suppress the Black vote.
Mr. Adams accused Andrew Yang and top-tier mayoral candidate Kathryn Garcia of sending “the wrong signal” to Black voters by campaigning together — against him — on Juneteenth this weekend. The new federal holiday marks the date when the last slaves in the U.S. learned of their freedom in 1865.
“I think you send the wrong signal and the wrong message, and that is what how many of the African American, Hispanic candidates felt,” Mr. Adams, who hopes to become the city’s second Black mayor, said on CNN.
Asked whether he agreed with accusations that Mr. Yang, who is Asian American, and Ms. Garcia, who is White, were trying to suppress the Black vote, Mr. Adams replied, “African Americans are very clear on voter suppression. We know about a poll tax, we know about the fight that we’ve had historically, how you had to go through hurdles to vote. So if they feel based on their perception that it’s suppressed the vote, then I respect their feelings.”

To me, ranked voting violates the 1 person/1 vote concept, unless ranked voting distributes fractions of a vote, so that the totals of the votes equal the number of voters.
“You are onto something.”
Onto or just on? Both?
What is this "1 person/1 vote concept" of which you speak?
