In public when ever I see a guy with a military hat I always thank him or Her for their service.
Also many times there is a woman usually wife and I ask if she was with him during said service.
If the answer is yes, I also thank her for her service in putting up with the militery, Gub mint and His Crappola.
I always get a laugh but the woman like your Mom deserve gratitude. They Always smile and thanks me.

We can all see it sucks.
They all know it sucks, except the person who wrote it. And anyone who opposes it can kiss their career goodbye. So they all sign off on it as a piece of “poetry” to represent their city.
Or worse, is representative of it.
