Correct me if I’m wrong but the flag most people recognize as a confederate flag was just a battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia

The flag which is usually meant when people speak of the Confederate flag is a battle flag. I think it was used more widely, not only by the Army of Northern Virginia, but I'm not an expert on that topic.

The local chapter or "camp" of the SCV has a tradition of putting flags on Confederate graves in two local cemeteries for Memorial Day weekend. They used to put battle flags but now I think they just put the "first national" flag (three stripes and a union jack with 7 stars in a circle) on the graves. I am not a member but know several members since they also belong to my chapter of the SAR.
