I’ve read several of Professor McWhorter’s books on the history of language - “Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue” is a terrific exposition of the English language. He is liberal for sure but intellectually he’s honest. He’s written for both the Atlantic and the City Journal. In a podcast interview, he called “White Fragility” possibly the worst book he ever read.

We need more voices like him for sure.

Here is the address to his Atlantic article which I printed to pdf for sharing. It is a very good takedown of that book.

I found OMBT to be a very good book. I think he expounds on some things overly favorably to his view, but he definitely provides many thoughtful and interesting insights.

McWhorter is an honest liberal. He’s also part of the old black haute bourgeoisie (i.e., member of the “Jack and Jills” etc.). These people know damned well that “racism” hasn’t stopped them from doing a damned thing they ever wanted to do.
