The nearest STAR (Proxima Centauri) in our galaxy is 25 TRILLION miles away. That’s about 4.2 light years.
The nearest GALAXY is the Canis Major galaxy. It is 25,000 light years away, or about 5,952 TIMES as far as Proxima Centauri.

It is theorized that wrapping spaceships with a sub-space bubble, which essentially removes a space faring vessel from the material universe, makes distances basically irrelevant.
