“ No longer required. You can still get one if you want it for reciprocity purposes.”
It also allows you to purchase and take home a firearm. No waiting for background check.

Iowa recently passed similar, if not identical legislation and signed by the governor.

It isn’t stated, but open carry would almost by necessity have to be included in our (as of July 1st) or any “permitless” state. Unless they are going to allow concealed carry only? Some states have “printing” laws or penalties for a weapon that becomes inadvertantly exposed.

I think generally speaking “open carry” doesn’t make much sense, most of the time, but I definitely like to know where the boundaries are.

What I can’t figure out is why the NICS check can’t be done ahead of time, over the phone/text/email/smoke signals. It’s my understanding I have to wait (in person) to get a yay/nay.

Does posession of a valid CCW permit negate running a NICS at the time of purchase, that’s what you’re saying, right?

I never had to wait for my 4473 beyond a few minutes. Generally enough time to go outside, have a smoke, come back, and it’s all done.

The only one I ever had to wait was a gun store that was particularly busy and it took them about 2 hours to call the feds. Someone didn’t show up for work that day and the two women were by themselves and it slowed everything down
