Yes, they were approved by the FDA under an EUA.

The important thing is to understand what an EUA means. It does not allow for any compromise on safety or efficacy data. You still need peer reviewed data proving that before a drug can get an EUA.

What an EUA does is cuts through the other details. As an example normal approval requires data on what temperature you need to store a vaccine at.

The Pfizer EUA skipped that step. That’s why doses had to be kept at -70 early on. We now know you can store it safely at a much higher temp.
