the feds do NOT come calling, they don’t request, they don’t attempt to enlist your aid. They DEMAND! I’ve had a few personal experiences with the feds. NOT ONE that I would consider complimentary.
I guess that’s your experience. On the occasions that I’ve worked with them, it’s been a request.
Granted it was usually folks from a joint Task Force, where the locals and Feds already had a relationship, but it was a request, nonetheless. I never saw anyone say No, so I never saw it go further, obviously.
But, there have been times where they’ve acted alone, things went sideways and things got very heated between the Feds and the Detectives.
Of course, the Feds would throw out the fact that they “outranked” everyone, we don’t fall under your jurisdiction and didn’t have to comply with the locals, as they didn’t have to play by local rules. Which is what they did with the Lavoy Finicum case, where the locals allowed the FBI to steam roll over them.
It’s like when FedZilla throws out the Supremacy Clause when it’s convenient.
However, I’m not so sure these waters have ever been tested. What will they do if/when a Sheriff, or some other agency head, says...Get the f*ck out of here. While there are a lot of FBI personnel, not all of them have guns. Cops/deputies outnumber the Feds by a long, long way. One of the reasons there are so many task forces out there. Time will tell if it gets that far.
