President Biden called Russian President Vladimir Putin a "worthy adversary" at a press conference following a NATO summit in Brussels on Monday — days after Putin praised former president Donald Trump and called Biden a "career man" in an interview.
"He's bright, he's tough, and I've found that he is — as they say when I used to play ball — a worthy adversary," Biden said of Putin.

IIRC, Putin installed Dmitri Medvedev as a placeholder, a seat filler, a career man who would temporarily serve and then give up his seat when Putin returned to power. And that's exactly what happened.
Biden is just filling a chair temporarily, just like Mevedev did for Putin. Question is, who is Joe keeping the seat warm for?

I instinctively knew what that saying meant the first time I heard it.
I was in my early teens at the time.
It isn’t a compliment. When I hear “career man” it sounds like someone who is incompetent but uses any skills they have to maintain a job and advance, not to do a job well.
