NSA whistleblower Reality Winner released from prison

Reality Winner, a US Air Force veteran jailed for leaking classified documents, has been released from federal prison, her lawyer said Monday.

“I am thrilled to announce that Reality Winner has been released from prison,” attorney Allison Grinter Allen posted on Twitter. “She is still in custody in the residential reentry process, but we are relieved and hopeful.

“Her release is not a product of the pardon or compassionate release process, but rather the time earned from exemplary behavior while incarcerated,” the lawyer said.

Winner, 29, a former National Security Agency contractor, was sentenced to more than five years in prison in 2018 for leaking a top-secret report on alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election to the media.

That is what real conviction and sentencing does: deters others from breaking those laws.

If people are not convicted, there is no deterrence.

If sentences are light, there is no deterrence.

If sentences are not carried out in a timely fashion, there is no deterrence.

If convicts are freed of their obligation to serve a sentence, there is no deterrence.

This woman has no regret except the regret of getting caught.

She will likely be able to bank off Leftist enthusiasm for as long as her fifteen minutes of fame lasts. Perhaps she should have talked to Cindy Sheehan to get a better handle on how long that lasts.

It certainly won’t last as long as banking off of a government acquired top secret clearance, even if you don’t do illegal things and shoot your mouth off.

She is in federal prison, right?

Last time I checked, federal prison terms have ZERO gain time for good behavior.

Unless federal sentencing law has been changed in the recent past, her lawyer's statement is completely bogus.

I’ve got to admit, “Reality Winner” is a great name.

She is not a whistleblower!

Other than that it seems there was no special treatment. She was sentenced to 5 years 3 months and was released in ~4 years. Seems like a standard good behavior release.
