**Based on what I’ve been reading, they’ve been doing this for a while now. How else would they be able to report 30% of those were fully vaccinated? :)**
What is “this”? My comment was about mRNA vaccines like Moderna and Pfizer. They are FAR more effective against COVID-19, including the variants, than other vaccines like Astra Zeneca and Johnson & Johnson.
Britain only started receiving mRNA vaccines a few weeks ago, and only began full-scale vaccination recently.
Any article claiming that vaccination in general is not effective against variants, as a warning against Americans being vaccinated, by citing British statistics, is blowing smoke up our skirts. Americans have not been vaccinated with the riskier, less-effective vaccines given to Brits.
Ah, my bad. Was reading and replying to quickly. Sorry. My brain didn’t take in the meaning of your post :)
Here is up-to-date American data from Moderna from their booster trial on the previously vaccinated.
Participants in the Phase 2 study were tested for pseudovirus neutralization (PsVN) titers prior to boosting approximately 6 to 8 months after their primary vaccination series. Although titers versus the wild-type SARS-CoV-2 virus remained high, with 37 of 40 participants having detectable titers, titers against the variants of concern (B.1.351 and P.1) were much lower, with approximately half of participants having titers below the assay limit of quantification prior to boosting.
Two weeks after receiving either mRNA-1273 or mRNA-1273.351, PsVN titers were boosted in all participants and all variants tested. Following boost, geometric mean titers (GMT) against the wild-type, B.1.351, and P.1 variants increased to levels similar to or higher than the previously reported peak titers against the ancestral (D614G) strain following primary vaccination1.
