That's a very uncharitable view of the man. Harry made a grave mistake thinking he could graft a Californian from Tinseltown onto the royal family in an instant, ignoring his brother's good advice to take more time to get to know her. Of course, her biological clock ticking made both of them rush right in.
If Meghan truly was estranged from her father before the flimsy excuse of "he got paid for photos!" claim against a man living in a small bungalow on Social Security in Mexico, there should never have been any question about whether he would walk her down the aisle. The Palace should have announced that her father is in poor health and will not attend, AFTER she and Harry arranged for him to receive a stipend in exchange for not bothering her, given that she was willing to spend $30,000 on a single gown for her engagement photo, and that the couple extorted 32 million pounds ($45M US dollars) from the British taxpayers for their wedding and an additional 3 million to upgrade the house they would soon abandon, having planned to leave even before the wedding, and before discussing it with Harry's employer the Queen, who is the head of the global diplomatic corps that was paying Harry's way.
Instead, they had a public spat in the media when the confused, impoverished dad was approached countless times by tabloid reporters and eventually tried to make his own way to get ready for the event from which he would soon be ejected, not because of the photos, but because of her embarrassment about her background, causing him great stress and possibly triggering his heart condition. Her mom and Oprah already had done private interviews, greasing the skids, and were covered for any missteps by the race card. (That said, Doria dressed impeccably and behaved discreetly and deserves credit for it.)
The father is who he is, and had Harry taken five minutes of COMMON COURTESY to get to know him, his hurt feelings could have been neutralized from the start.
It was ludicrous to think that the couple could go from a stance of "I don't care if you meet my father, even after he supported me when Doria went to jail and he paid for my education and his relative got me a job for the State Department" to "he should have walked me down the aisle a week after his heart attack but didn't!" without even making an effort to have palace aides contact Thomas Markle and see if they could help him become presentable and informed of royal protocol so he could attend the wedding and do the honors. The whole set-up looked like Meghan helping her mother shiv the ex-husband.
Blaming only the father for being uncultured is letting Harry off the hook for being a doofus who has publicly slimed his own family and his Queen, which for a military Brit is equivalent to an American military man burning the flag and helping the enemy.
Harry was no Professor Henry Higgins, taking an uncultured waif and turning her into My Fair Lady. Instead, he is letting a classless wannabe's crass behavior bring him down to her precious, self-centered, conniving, vengeful, narcissistic level. Compared to H&M, Thomas is a gentleman.
