Haha..

I’m actually good with math and several languages.

When I’m in a Spanish-speaking country I can get by with what I know, look it up, or find a translator.

But in my own country I shouldn’t have to bother.

Same with foreign units of measure. In my own country I shouldn’t have to do a conversion to figure out how fast something is going.

Then some people will argue that if I’m reading a foreign scientific journal translated to English, I should expect metric units of measure. My answer there is - if they are going to bother translating it, why didn’t they translate the units of measure?

Funny story. I was driving home from a trip and saw a patrol car just as I was passing through a 25mph zone. I slowed down and checked my speed - to my surprise, I was still going 40! I slowed down even more and was finally down to about 25 when the cop pulled up beside me and signaled for me to roll down my window.

I stopped, rolled it down and he said: “why so slow?”

As soon as he said that I realized what happened: my 2007 Honda Civic has a mph/kph switch right next to the trip counter and I must have accidentally toggled it.

No harm done this time - the cop laughed. But brainlessly accommodating foreign languages and units of measure is not just an annoyance - it is a mark of what pussies Americans have become - thanks to the Left.

I’m reminded of a scary km/mi per hour incident in my flaming youth. I was on the back of a Harley in Mexico roaring down a long hill. I looked over the drivers shoulder at the speedomiter and screamed, “My God we’re going 160 miles per hour.” Then I realized it was Kilometers and screamed, “My God we’re going 100 miles an hour.” Actually the worst part of that trip was the ride back through an 8,000 foot high pass in the pouring rain with inadequate rain gear. When we got back to Mexico City, my friend had to pry my hypothermic paralyzed fingers open so I could get off the bike.

Actually, if you are not doing precise measurements, it is pretty easy to do rough calculations. A meter is a little more than a yard, there are 2.5 centimeters in an inch, and there are 8 kilomters in 5 miles. However if you use the wrong kind of measure in planning the landing from a space vehicle to the surface of Mars (I think it was) your unmanned vehicle will crash, and you will loose your job in all likelihood. And just thank God it was unmanned.
