Must a subpoena go through a judge, or is it issued directly to whoever has the documents in question? I assume the former (correct me if I'm wrong), so the word "seizure" seems inappropriate, since they can't just walk in and grab whatever they want.

If it was a grand jury subpeona, it does not go through a judge.
