Why on earth would they be ‘perplexed’? Surely they all saw her performance during the presidential debates. Surely they knew her record from the Senate. Surely they knew her record from California. They knew what they were getting in to bringing Miss High and Mighty on board. But they had to go ‘woke’ for the vote, with the end result of Central American leaders being lectured and insulted in their own countries.

They can’t deny the awfulness of her performance, so are trying to spin it as an anomaly. Maybe they’ll claim she was thrown by a case of Montezuma’s revenge.
