My stepdaughter used to complain that every year in school the history lesson was slavery, civil war, reconstruction, jim crow, civil rights. She wondered why they never taught history of other lands, like Europe, where she was from.

A fine example of the disorganized, pathetic nature of the study of history in the US school systems. I read history as a kid, and it bemused me to see the rather blase phys-ed-I'm-stuck-teaching-history-from-book teachers and their inevitable rush through the last decades near the end of a semester - no one learned anything about Reconstruction, and usually ended up the next semester with a quick "McCarthyism bad" day.

If these supposed complaints about 'systemic racism' not being taught, it was more likely gripes because they could have used it to leverage some advantage they missed out on...
