The New York Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives created a joint intelligence center that will seek to crack down on the illegal gun trade following a surge of shootings in the city.
The center will use new technology and traditional detective work to trace the source of weapons involved in crimes, said John DeVito, the ATF’s special agent in charge of New York State, said at a press conference Tuesday with Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“It’s not a matter of if, but when we’ll come calling,” DeVito said.

Headline suggests it is the Gun Task Force that is “illegal”.
Yes...New York commies are clever!
Going after the illegal gun trade is a waste of time. What would be magnitudes more effective would be if one used a firearm in the course of a crime, any crime, you get life in prison, no parole. Do that, and watch the situation improve rapidly. The majority of these inner city gun slingers are multiple repeat offenders. It is way over due to permanency remove them from society.

(I should have edited the headline thusly:
NYPD, Federal ATF Create Illegal Gun Task Force After Shootings
No one would have noticed and you would have had more fun.)
ProTip: IT'S NOT THE GUNS!!!
How many times has a mass shooter had prior contact with the FBI?
If they simply focused their efforts on follow up investigations of people the FBI has had contact with in the past 5-10 years, a lot of this events could be prevented.
They can start with the Obama/Biden Fast and Furious gun giveaway.
There are no Pros in NYPD or ATF.
ain’t that the truth

If I understand it correctly, joint task forces like this double badge the officers, so the local cops can basically act like federal agents, and aren’t limited to their local or state jurisdiction. So doing grows the federal police bureaucracy blob and does not sound particularly conducive to high standards and accountability. From what I understand, NYPD cops love this because its gets them out from under their local supervisors and presents opportunities for cool assignments and travel and overtime... none of which is bad in and of itself, but I wonder about the secondary effects.
They will invent “illegal guns” and their suppliers.
Soon after Barry Soetero illegally occupied the white hut and he announced the “under the radar” methods of banning guns I got several visits from random people asking if they could “rent” my machinery to finish 80% lowers. I told them go away and I don’t do walk in work anyway. After a few days every machine shop in the region was visited by the same type of people. About two weeks later AFT agents came in to my shop and said they heard I was making guns and “needed” to take a look around. I immediately locked the doors and told them I will call the sheriff and report them for trespassing if they ever came back without a warrant. They never came back but they did show up to every other shop with the same tactic and sadly, many let them take tours of their shops. I saw videos on youtube of them showing up to mechanics’ shops accusing them of ordering silencers when they were buying oil and fuel filters.
All you need to know about the ATF and FBI is Ruby Ridge, Waco, and Hunter Biden’s laptop. They are not law enforcement. They are democrat party stasi. And I know they are reading this. I’m sure Biden has them ready to go.
I knew they were reading when I posted this thread.
Zactly
“The New York Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives created a joint intelligence....” Oh, okay.
And the self destruction of the Murrah building...
Dumb. Just go after the subhumans that commit crimes with guns.
