DOJ crafts model red flag legislation for states and may require registration for certain guns
The Washington Examiner ^ | 6/07/2021 | Jake Dima

The Justice Department crafted red flag legislation for states to consider and issued a host of proposed changes to the classification of certain guns through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

On Monday, the DOJ published "model legislation and detailed commentary" on "extreme risk protection orders," also known as red flag laws, which allow local law enforcement to seize guns from those deemed a threat to themselves or others prior to an appearance before a judge. It also drew attention to a possible ATF rule change that would alter the definition of a rifle-style pistol "when individuals use accessories to convert pistols into short-barreled rifles."

The change from pistol to short-barreled rifle likely will require gun owners to register their weapons under the National Firearms Act. The NFA tightly regulates short-barreled rifles, which are long guns with a barrel length shorter than 16 inches. ...

The "death of a thousand cuts".

from the article ... "The ATF attempted a similar change (regarding pistols and stabilizer braces) on Dec. 18, though the agency was met with fierce backlash from the public, and the motion was later withdrawn on Dec. 23 after upward of 70,000 people made public comments against the measure. The ATF's proposal unveiled on Monday is also open for public comment."

List of Obama Gun Control Measures
Perhaps the most significant Obama gun control measure was not a law but a rule that required the Social Security Administration to report disability-benefit recipients with mental health conditions to the FBI’s background check system, which is used to screen firearm buyers. Obama's successor, Republican President Donald Trump, rescinded the rule in 2017.

They have already got a massive, illegal gun blockage program going through ‘protective orders’

Although it would be unconstitutional, an intelligent person would probably think that those who should be deprived of guns are demographic populations involved in the most gun crimes. But in a sense we have already tried that in an ersatz way. Criminals will acquire guns, because, well, because they are criminals. Draconian restrictions only affect law abiding citizens. Criminals gonna crime anyway.

LOL. I assume compliance with registration will be on the same level as with the CA and NY "assault weapon" registrations.

And if a pistol brace makes a gun a "short barreled rifle" why not dispense with the brace and just go with an adjustable or folding stock.

If they start with with this bull, people just might start disregarding the whole NFA, and make fully automatic weapons or suppressors, too.

I think from reading the article this is for states to use, but I believe this is not DOJ place.

Pistol + folding stock = SBR since 1934. Thanks FDR...

We just watched the entire Democrat political class across the country "not abide by the law".

I'm done with being a conservative chump who "abides by the law".

Their "laws" are ripe to be folded, spindled and mutilated.

Here's some food for further thought:

Note that "they" want to get rid of the police - but "they" want to increase the number of prosecutors.

How does that even work - unless you're targeting your political enemies?

The DOJ and the Fraudulent US Authorities can craft “model legislation” that says the sun shall rise in the West and set in the East. It will have the exact same standing as this. Wherever this is imposed and local cops actually enforce it, watch how quickly Patriots will start supporting massive defunding of the police.
