Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said investigators had seized 63.7 Bitcoins, now valued at about $2.3 million, paid by Colonial (COLPI.UL) after last month's hack of its systems that led to massive shortages at U.S. East Coast gas stations.

An affidavit filed on Monday said the FBI was in possession of a private key to unlock the hackers' Bitcoin wallet. It was unclear how the FBI gained access to this key.

"Today, we've turned the tables on DarkSide," said Monaco, referring to a ransomware group widely believed to have been behind the crippling fuel pipeline attack.

I am calling BS on this.
Dark money to make America feel like the DOJ is doing something
Well, there you go... So much for the so called super security for bit coins... It may end up giving the phrase "Two Bits" a whole new meaning... :)
The dogs and human agents know which vehicles to search. They use intel gained illegally and use the illegal information and use it to start a legal search with all the right phone surveillance, warrants etc. It is called parallel construction and unforntuately it is totally legal thus far.
Maybe Putin doing Biden a solid to gain an advantage in their upcoming summit?
Yeah a definite complaint of mine too.
Now I suppose they can drain a bank account too. But there are procedures and warrants and afaik a judgement must be entered and etc.
Not just take it.
Interesting hypothesis with a lot of weight.
the government has access to some of the most powerful computers in the world, if they wanted to and focused their computing power onto a particular situation, they could easily in seconds know everyone involved anywhere in the world.
There is NO WAY the gubmint will allow money they can't trace and seize to flow around. The rumor I'm hearing is "The Great Reset" is coming where all Americans money is seized and replaced with a Cyrpto account under the governments control. NO MORE CASH!! You won't be able to buy and sell unless you barter privately. This way they can follow what you buy and sell in DC and regulate the way they want. Medicare has already looked into a plan to monitor your food purchases to keep diabetics from buying Blue Bell Ice cream and making sure your vegetable purchases meet a certain level. How about a family with 3 kids purchasing a gun without regulation? If they control your money, they control you. Crypto is just a knock off of "local script" from the Viet Nam days.
When the government spent millions trying to shut down the Silk Road I'm sure they started then figuring out how to keep track of people that could buy and sell slaves, guns, drugs, and even murder. They don't want a world where Kim Jung UN could sell a nuke on the dark web. Confiscating cash over $9999 was just a beginning.
We don’t need no stinkin’ due-process....
So they didn’t get it all back. I wonder how bitcoins the fib kept.

The FBI wouldn’t do that now, would they?
It’s all explained here:

“...and afaik a judgement must be entered...”
You mean a FISA warrant judgment? :-) Those are a dime-a-dozen under the rat administration!
I wonder how many of the cryptocurrencies are actually money traps set up by national intelligence agencies.
Smore about elliptic:
Crypto Wallet Screening
Quickly identify the owner of a wallet and its source and destination of funds through a simple browser-based interface.
(This is too easy!)
NO WAY the FIBBERS did this so quickly.
We're NOT STUPID OUT HERE!
That explains private enterprise responding to and exposing hackers trying to launder, spend or cash out their extortion proceeds to protect Eliptic clients, but it doesn’t explain who originated, orchestrated or subcontracted the Exploit, or if it was False Flagged for Political purposes.
And I'm calling False Flag BS on this.
Whose Black Ops and which Perps Blood?
