A failed governor gets promoted to a federal job. What nonsense.

In LBJ’s day they couldn’t use the Internet to shut down the grid.

And that wasn’t even cutting edge.

They knew about the danger even back the and still chose to do nothing about it.

I can spoof my IP address via TOR. VPN does the same, but is more traceable.

“The electrical power grid that powers Northern America is not a single grid, but is instead divided into multiple wide area synchronous grids.”

“In 2009, The Wall Street Journal reported that spies from China and Russia, as well as from other countries, ‘penetrated the U.S. electrical grid and left behind software programs that could be used to disrupt the system. According to U.S. officials, the spies did not seek to damage the power grid; however they might be able to do so during a war or crisis. Most of the intrusions were detected by American intelligence agencies.”

The transmission grids are operated by transmission system operators (TSOs), not-for profit companies that are typically owned by the utilities in their respective service areas, where they coordinate, control and monitor the operation of the electrical power system. TSOs are obliged to provide nondiscriminatory transmission access to electricity generators and customers. TSOs can be of two types: Independent System Operators (ISOs) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs). The former operate within a single state, and the latter cover wider areas crossing state borders.

In 2009 there were four RTOs in the U.S.:
ISO New England (ISO-NE, which is an RTO despite its name);
Midcontinent Independent System Operator;
PJM Interconnection in the Mid-Atlantic region; and
Southwest Power Pool (SPP) covering Oklahoma, Kansas and parts of Arkansas, Missouri, Texas and New Mexico.

There are also three ISOs:
California Independent System Operator (California ISO);
New York Independent System Operator (NYISO);
Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT, an ISO).

She’s good at looking good.

Damn, son, you been locked away for a few decades? That critter didn't look good when she was in her 20s. She looks like she fell outta the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down at her current age.

There’s a trilogy of books now — the “One Second After” series. The other two are worth a read. While I don’t want to mention spoilers; the villain might have cankles.

This is next.

The two products Biden has made clear he wants gone - gas and meat- have both been ‘hacked’.

He wants solar and wind so electric grid is next.

Bank on it.

Seems like there should be two distinct and separate internets, one just for vital infrastructure, banks etc.

This has maps that show where power plants are located, by type:

“SHARE OF ELECTRICITY GENERATED BY NATURAL GAS-POWERED PLANTS”[by state]

A Tesla in West Virginia will probably get recharged using coal.

A Tesla in Rhode Island is unlikely to get recharged using coal.

Guess the Southern state most fond of solar-generated utility electricity as of 2017.

“There are thousands of attacks on all aspects of the energy sector and the private sector generally.”

Well then quit whining and attack back. Issue letters of mark and put our private sector to work. Tell them they can keep anything they steal or defraud out of them.
