To: Alberta's Child

Well, during the Vietnam War my number was real high which meant I would definitely be drafted. So, I joined the US Navy Reserve and spent 2 years on Active Duty, 2 years meetings and 3 years inactive. So, the DRAFT is definitely something that will impact a young person’s life.

During the Vietnam War, manpower was so short (few volunteers) that even the Marines resorted to “DRAFTING” young men into their service. And, many of them died. Hundreds of body bags coming home each month when I joined the USNR.

The only draftee we had in the 2nd Bn, 1st Marines in Vietnam in 1967, our command sent home because he wasn’t mentally able to handle it. We felt bad for him.
