Apparently two years is the most they can do. I would imagine that they could extend it later if they wanted to.

They chose 2 years because it effectively shuts down Trump’s message on the platform right before the election
I believe it might be because of the new Florida law that will fine social media companies for banning political candidates. They want to shut him up for as long as possible but as soon as he runs they’ll be in violation.
...just a guess but seems reasonable.
