Thanks to its increasing anti-police extremism, the Democrat Party has lost three influential voters in Virginia.
The three influential voters — Sheriff Chip Shuler of Smyth County, Sheriff John McClanahan of Buchanan County and Sheriff Brian Hieatt of Tazewell County — were once all Democrats. But not any anymore.
Shuler made his switch two Mondays ago when he formally filed a membership application with the Smyth County Republican Committee and the application was promptly approved, as reported by local station WJHL.
“I am changing to the Republican Party because of the relentless attack on law enforcement by Democrats in Richmond and Washington. My deputies work hard to serve and protect the citizens of Smyth County,” he said in a press release at the time.
“As sheriff, it has been difficult to watch my deputies try to move forward during this unprecedented assault on our profession,” he said in a press release. We remain an honorable profession and should not be judged by the bad acts of a few,” he added.

She and her husband are now both Republican.
I’m guessing these counties all kind of border WV?
Clinton (Bill) did very well in those counties.
Which it did.
Fortunately, there were very few of them.

I often feel like people who switch political parties are like life long drug addicts who try to quit cold turkey, many of them just can’t hack it and fall back to their old ways. Don’t trust them.
Tazwell is just south of Bluefield, WV and Buchanan is southeast of Pikeville, Ky.
In the grand scheme of Virginia politics, the party changes are very encouraging. It would be more encouraging though to see such changes in NoVa or the Tidewater.
Forgive me if this sounds condescending but only 3 switched? And recently? It’s very obvious (especially Police) that the Democrat party have gone full blown Marxism. They hate this country, they’re still a bunch of racists dividing the country and they’re here to destroy it.....and only 3 sheriff’s recognize this? All of them should!
Only until the BLM/ANTIFA Nazis start herding them into gas chambers.
It is a start. I’d love to see the make up of the Tidewater area, since there’s military there, along with a shipyard.
Hoping this will be the start of a trend........
