It’s ancient history or ancient misery? I don’t think there’s anywhere that has a positive history with the Islamic Cult.
There was a brief period when Christians, Moors and Jews lived together in harmony and talented people could find employment in the court of the Sultan. Then the Elmohads invaded and demanded that everyone either accept Islam or be put to the sword, and the Moorish renaissance was over. A young Maimonides and his family had to run for their lives from Cordova. Everything went to sh!t real fast.
Then the Islamic empire went into decline again, and ultimately Ferdinand and Isabella gained hegemony over the peninsula, and demanded that all the secret Jews and Muslims behave like sincere Christians like they promised, kicked all the openly observant Jews and Christians out of Spain in 1492, and instituted the Inquisition, all not necessarily in chronological order as presented here.
Then the New World was discovered and the Protestant reformation rocked Europe, pirates preyed on the Spanish Main, and Spain went to sh!t and stayed there.
