If I were running that test, with an enemy ship observing, I’d aim for a position offset from the physical target. The missile hits the offset, while missing the alleged target, leaving the Russkies thinking it failed. Along with our Communist-fellow-travelling legacy “press”.

My god our corrupt yet grossly incompetent activist press is literally going to get millions of Americans either dead or fully enslaved to the CCP. Russia didn’t need any tipping off - the CCP has assets at all levels of US institutions and certainly on the West Coast. It would be a minor task for CCP spies to pass the military intelligence to their Russian partners.
