'Never!': Senator Manchin Destroys Mainstream Media Obsession with Filibuster Elimination
Townhall ^ | 06/02/2021 | Reagan McCarthy

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), viewed as a "swing" vote in the Democratic caucus, expressed frustration with reporters on Capitol Hill who continually ask him his stance on the future of the legislative filibuster. After months of obsession with his stance on the filibuster, which the Democratic senator has made abundantly clear, he had harsh words for those asking the same question repeatedly.

"I'm not separating our country, OK?" Manchin said in response to yet another question about eliminating the filibuster. "I don't know what you all don't understand about this. You ask the same question every day. It's wrong."

For months, Manchin and Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) have remained committed to keeping the filibuster intact.

"Never!" he told Fox News in March when asked about nuking the filibuster. "Jesus Christ, what don't you understand about never?"

Manchin even maintained that he would not blow up the filibuster if the bill to create a January 6 commission was blocked by Republican senators, which happened last week.

Just asked Sen. Joe Manchin if he would invoke the nuclear option to blow up the filibuster if Republicans block the Jan. 6 commission bill.

“No,” he told me. “I can’t take the fallout.”— Manu Raju (@mkraju) May 25, 2021

Manchin on whether he would gut the filibuster to get Jan. 6 commission bill passed. “I’m not ready to destroy our government. I’m not ready to destroy our government, no.”— Manu Raju (@mkraju) May 27, 2021

Still, Manchin continues to be asked about his commitment to the filibuster.

What they don’t understand about never is how many times Joe has flipped for a price.

Maybe Manchin should hire extra bodyguards. Like to keep an eye on his government-hired bodyguards.
I have no idea how this stuff works, but Senators have died while in office - sometimes from odd circumstances.

Most of our politicians have a price regardless of party.

Manchin has a stubborn streak and thankfully it appears he has dug his heels in on this one. It is his “selling point” in a deep red state and he has been around long enough to know that he is toast if he abandons that streak.

One of the communists that I keep an eye on described this battle perfectly:

“End the filibuster, then pass single payer, $15 minimum wage, basic income, and free university tuition. Let the Republicans try to repeal that later and face the voters.”

They are right. They keep enacting this garbage, like Obamacare, then behave as if millions will die if it is repealed. Then, it never gets repealed.

Most Democrat Senators don't want to lose power, which elimination of the filibuster would mean, although they are very happy to have Manchin and Sinema take all the slings and arrows for it. (It won't hurt them in their home states and will probably help them.)

How it works is he doesn’t have a damn thing to worry about, because if he died he has a 100% chance of being replaced by a Republican!

The Republican governor of WVA would appoint someone to serve the balance of Manchin's term. And under WVA law, the appointee must be of the same party as the departed senator. Would not be good for Republicans.

He’ll be 77 in 2024.
May be planning on packing it in anyway.

Notice how Democrat “Moderates” are harrassed and treated with disdain, while Republican “Moderates” are lionized by the corrupt media.

Pretty easy to notice, our media is corrupt.

0% chance of a Republican. In WVA, the governor must appoint a replacement of the same party.

NOT TRUE! That law only applies to STATE senators or STATE House as you can see HERE.

NOT TRUE! See my reply above. That law ONLY applies to STATE senators or to members of the STATE House of Delegates.
