It is sad to see how are youth is a shell of what it used to be.
One child of mine is a “young adult,” and the other will be shortly; neither is like you describe, so I wondered if you were talking about your own children.

I teach college students. And I’m glad your young adults are okay, but if you don’t realize how deep our problems are with education compared to where we were a couple of generations ago (and compared to some other countries), then your take on their situation may be suspect.
If our educational system is bad, I'm not going to blame it on the kids. I wouldn't really know; the only time my children saw the inside of a public school is when they took their SATs.
I’m not blaming the kids, but it is condemning our country to tough times—and making foreign workers relatively more attractive for roles where skill and intelligence are required.
And it sounds like you’ve got lucky kids.
