The good news is our economic recovery from the pandemic is finally underway. The bad news is that it’s going a lot slower in blue states than red states — thanks to foolish big-government policies.
This is the inescapable conclusion revealed by the latest jobs and unemployment data.
“The unemployment rate in April nationwide was 6.1%, but this obscures giant variations in the states,” the Wall Street Journal reports. “With some exceptions, those run by Democrats such as California (8.3%) and New York (8.2%) continued to suffer significantly higher unemployment than those led by Republicans such as South Dakota (2.8%) and Montana (3.7%).”
The difference really is unusually glaring. Of the top 10 states with the lowest unemployment rates in April, nine have Republican governors. What’s behind this destructive discrepancy?
Economist Dan Mitchell looked at these figures and concluded that there’s “a clear relationship between joblessness and the degree to which states pursue big-government policies.”

I did my duty and spent all my Covid bucks from Uncle Sam on a vacation in a red state.
The biggest growth industry in the USA is making “Help Wanted” banners, flags, signs, and posters. Based on what I see, we should be at 0% unemployment.
I wonder what could possibly be holding people back from landing a job.
This isn’t news.
It’s been obvious for years, but I suppose better late than never that people are waking up to that fact.
Doesn’t matter with those two blue turds in charge. They are destroying our country.
The unemployment rate is calculated from polling 60,000 households each month. Given that fewer and fewer people have home phones and fewer of those answer calls from unknown numbers, I doubt that the rate can be calculated accurately.
Also, the rate is calculated by asking if you are working and if you aren't then have you actively looked for a job in the past month. If you've just collected your check and didn't look for a job you are counted as outside the workforce (like a child or retiree) instead of being unemployed.
“When Congress rushed through trillions in wasteful and fraud-rife “COVID-relief” emergency spending, it created a broken unemployment welfare system that pays most unemployed people more not to work. The average beneficiary is making the equivalent of $17.13 an hour on benefits. (Many in high-benefit states such as Massachusetts are earning even more!)”
At $17.13 an hour with no expenses for gas, work clothes etc., probably half the work force is happy to sit at home, just like they ride their unemployment for as long as possible. I have friend in CA who has been riding the system for 20 years doing this. These days are probably the best he’s ever had.
Maybe having to wear a mask all day long is a deal breaker.
And yet Uncle Sam can print more money, issue huge debt, and have the Federal Reserve buy up all the mortgage backed securities and turn that money over to blue states.
Just imagine if the blue states. Actually embraced capitalism patriotism and American exceptionalism
