Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) says he “respectfully disagrees” with the family of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died a day after policing the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, on the value of a commission to investigate the events of that day.
In a statement, Johnson said he was “happy” to meet with Gladys Sicknick, Brian Sicknick’s mother, and his longtime girlfriend Sandra Garza, to offer “heartfelt condolences.”
Johnson also said he met with Officers Michael Fanone, who unsuccessfully attempted to arrange a meeting with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), and Harry Dunn, who previously detailed the racism that he and other Black officers faced while defending the Capitol.
“As I did publicly at the time, I again condemn the grotesque violence, repugnant racial slurs, and other illegal acts that occurred on Jan. 6,” Johnson said. “All those who engaged in those repulsive acts should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
“I also asked what questions they regarding Jan. 6 they are seeking answers to. Although we respectfully disagreed on the added value of the proposed commission, I did commit to doing everything I could to ensure all their questions will be answered,” he said.
The statement comes after Gladys Sicknick asked every Senate GOP office for a meeting on Thursday to discuss “the importance” of the commission.
Only three Republicans — Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), and Susan Collins (Maine) — have said they would vote to advance the bill. Most Republicans oppose the measure.
Johnson, a staunch supporter of former President Trump, has previously said he opposed forming a commission, calling it “a farce.”
“I hope no Republicans in the House vote for this," Johnson said last week before the House passed the bill with 35 GOP votes. "I hope nobody in the Senate embraces it either," he added.
Brian Sicknick died the day after the riots, which saw supporters of Trump overwhelm the Capitol as Congress was certifying President Biden’s Electoral College victory in the 2020 election.
The D.C. chief medical examiner’s office has said he suffered two strokes and died of natural causes.
So, you don't believe that the false-flag ANTIFA-Occupy types caused the problems, disguised in Trump gear? We'll have to disagree.
Prove it
Yes my TDS is so severe I voted for Trump 4 times. However I did not join a cult like some sycophants here.
👍
Undoubtedly a reference to the brutal murder of Ashli Babbitt by a (still) unidentified Capitol policeman.
Regards,
I’m hard-pressed to think of a better man for the job since 2016.
So I run up the stairwell. There’s people freaking everywhere. They saw I came from an area that wasn’t occupied by terrorists. So they tried to go down the steps. I said, “No, you’re not going down there.” And I’m exhausted. They’re saying, “Trump is our rightful president. Nobody voted for Joe Biden.” I needed to catch my breath. So I said, “I voted for Joe Biden. What? My vote doesn’t matter?” A woman responded, “This [slur] voted for Joe Biden!” Everybody that was there started joining in. “Hey, [slur]!” It was over 20 people who said it.
Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn

Do I believe Officer Dunn's story? I did not see anybody else corroborate his story...Maybe it happened...Or maybe not...I am not sure...I have no intention of calling Officer Dunn a liar however...
Officer Dunn is entitled to his own opinions about January 6...However, he is finding out that many people do not agree with his views about January 6...
Senator Johnson made it clear that he does not want to defend people who used racial slur against black police officers...
>>there that some people were wasted and loutish,
Certainly the intruders who claimed to be “reporters” were as they shouted things designed to ignite a riot were obscene and loutish...
That's the dumbest thing I've read today.
If only Seth Rich’s mom wanted to know what happened to HER son that night!!
The Democrats will make sure that they come up with the answers that they want over the course of the House Committee hearings on January 6th that they'll be holding over the course of the next year and a half.
It's been alleged literally since January 7th.
And absent the independent committee there will never be any resolution on who killed Babbitt and why the shooting was ruled justified.
“ Sure 42 year olds die of strokes all the time. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the shitshow. Sicknick was a huge Trump supporter and he died of embarrassment that other Trump supporters could be such a***oles.”
____________
Maxine Waters, is that you, peach-fo-fi?
“She lost her son. Let her do what she feels needs to be done.”
I’m with you there. Ron Johnson and the press have unhelpfully broadcast her thoughts, and Ron has used it as an opportunity to broadcast his.
I think the democrats’ desire for a commission is a bluff. The democrats need the full story of the “riot” to remain hidden from view.
Well, rest assured, you certainly don't appear to be that kind of a***hole.
You appear to be a very different breed, the kind that has no problem with this political persecution going on. We have a name for those kind of a***holes.
Leftist turds.
Zero confidence in the integrity and intentions of the Rat party. There is no doubt they would misuse the commission. Not going to sign up for their lies and created alternative reality.
The Lone Ranger, as I said.
I don’t doubt somebody somewhere used a racial slur. In big crowds, especially infiltrated with provocateurs, there will be some people who say stupid things. Maybe some of them were bona fide Trump supporters. But you cannot prosecute anyone for using a racial slur. It is protected free speech, as ugly as it is.
The media just added that nonsense in for some drama and pile on because we all know that Trump supporters are racist, don’t ya know by now.
