Trump’s hold on GOP remains as he teases Texas AG endorsement

As Donald Trump seeks to remain a kingmaker in Republican politics, the former President teased an upcoming endorsement in an important statewide race in Texas.

In a new statement to CNN on Tuesday, Trump said he will soon be endorsing for Texas attorney general ahead of next year’s GOP primary. The race will likely be between the incumbent, Ken Paxton, and current state land commissioner George P. Bush, who is expected to announce his challenge to Paxton as early as next week.

“I like them both very much. I’ll be making my endorsement and recommendation to the great people of Texas in the not-so-distant future. I told Texas that Sleepy Joe would be against guns, oil, and God, and I was right!” Trump said Tuesday.

The jockeying for Trump’s support is becoming standard practice in competitive Republican races.

In the crowded field for the GOP nomination in this year’s governor’s race in Virginia, for instance, multiple candidates positioned themselves as pro-Trump, including the eventual winner of the nomination, Glenn Youngkin. Virginia Democrats have since seized on the association, blasting the Republican nominee as “Glenn Trumpkin.”

As Texas’ attorney general, Paxton has been an ally of Trump’s, including in the effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Last December, Paxton launched an ill-fated lawsuit against several other states that voted for Democrat Joe Biden, seeking to invalidate more than 17 million ballots. The Supreme Court dismissed the suit later that month.

One person involved with Texas Republican politics told CNN that Trump was frustrated and disappointed with Paxton’s failed lawsuit.

You can't drain the swamp by endorsing ANY Bush.

An Attorney General Bush (Jeb!'s son) will open the southern Texas border, will look askance as illegal aliens flood Texas, will not enforce Texas or US immigration law, and will betray conservatives at every turn.

I hope Trump is not fool enough to make the same mistake Reagan did: assure the Bush family a position in government.

You can tell Ken Paxton is over the target by how much fake news flak he gets.

No way is Trump that dumb. Its over for Trumpworld in ‘24 if he picks Jeb!s kid over Paxton The Rep party in Texas fractures and Texas goes Blue in 24.

Why is there even a question as to who Trump should endorse?

Paxton lead the effort among the states to bring a case to the US SUpreme Court to rule on the 2020 election.

President Trump, If you are reading this, PLEASE don’t EVER endorse a Bush, or Rino (same thing). Make America Great Again!

Why would Bush be running against Paxton if he wasn’t against Paxton’s conservatism?

I can’t see how or why Trump would endorse any Bush.
If he does, that is when Trump voters will begin to fall off the Trump Train.

An endorsement of P would reveal that Trump has learned nothing from his endoresements of other Bush League Republicans, McCain, Romney, McConnell, Tillis, Grahamnesty, Rubio, etc.

I’ve been ignoring for the most part his endorsements of people who have made a career out of the opposite of MAGA, but after they colluded with Democrats to rob him of his second term, it just makes no sense.

If Trump does endorse the Son of Shrub-II, I will have to break ranks and support Ken Paxton.

I will NEVER again support anybody from the Bush Family and Crime Syndicate.

Not to mention the Supreme Court Appointments that turned their backs when the Nation needed them. The sheep have thoroughly pacified brain washed and cowed into pretending nothing out of the ordinary happened that day. Until it happens in 2022 and sameo, sameo again.

Lets not forget that Trumps picks include people like William Barr. So Trumps pics need to be verified for sure.

I hope he doesn’t, but Trump does have a track record of making poor choices when it comes to personnel and people he supports. He has been stabbed in the back way too many times.

I think he’s just jerking Bush around. Trying to get Paxton a little worked up by flirting with another.

Trump has learned nothing from his endoresements of other Bush League Republicans, McCain, Romney, McConnell, Tillis, Grahamnesty, Rubio, etc.

Indeed - he would have gotten so many more judges through in his last term if all of those Republicans had been replaced by Democrats instead with them in solid control of the Senate. Almost certainly would have blocked the Senate calling witnesses during his impeachment trial, etc. as well - and so many other things.

You've been advocating for Dem Senate victories in almost every Senate race for multiple election cycles here...for at least 7 years and counting. Remember you doing this since 2014 - at least.
