NEW YORK (AP) — Monifa Bandele became a community organizer in the late 1990s, after New York City police fatally shot a young, unarmed Black immigrant named Amadou Diallo in the Bronx.
In the two decades since, she repeatedly witnessed police reforms that failed to stop Black people from dying at the hands of officers. Some of those reforms are now part of federal legislation being negotiated in the name of George Floyd, the Black man whose murder under the knee of a white Minneapolis officer last year sparked worldwide protests.
For instance, the legislation calls for banning chokeholds, a step already taken by New York City prior to the 2014 death of Eric Garner, who in an encounter with the NYPD uttered the same last words as Floyd: “I can’t breathe.”
As the anniversary of Floyd’s death approaches, some reform supporters say the best way to honor him would be for Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. But many activists warn that some of the proposed reforms have not been enough to stop past police abuses, reflecting a divide within the movement over what would constitute real progress.

We're approaching the one year anniversary of when George Floyd overdosed on drugs.
There is a lot of media coverage concerning this and a big push for Congress to pass a police reform bill.
I believe ending no-knock warrants should be on the agenda and banning civil asset forfeiture but I doubt it will happen.
They do not care about the Constitution !
The AP and New York Times are just ‘black news, black issues’ 24/7 now, to the point where their agenda doesn’t even have a fig leaf of media neutrality like they at least attempted before.

I will go along with that, particularly civil asset forfeiture. It is blatantly unconstitutional to seize property before one receives due process and is found guilty of a crime.
There should also be an end to FISA court warrants. There many other more effective methods of dealing with spies and terrorists; the number one being never allowing them to enter the country.
I am not black. I am not racist. But it does tick me off where it seems every commercial has blacks when the percentage of blacks in the US is what 13%? I think “Am I watching TV in Uganda?”
Agree 100%
I’m guessing behind the scenes there is resistance to THOSE sort of reforms.
Instead they just want to ban choke holds or something.
Actual, common sense reforms like you describe will not happen.
Imagine being Hispanic. You make up a larger percentage of the U.S. population than blacks. Your percentage is growing, while blacks have been stagnant at around 13% forever now (they’re projected to still around 13% in 2050). Yet it’s blacks getting on money, blacks getting new holidays, blacks getting in every commercial, blacks getting non-stop news coverage, blacks still being the default, go-to group for non-white representation in TV, movies, etc.
Seems like it’d be a little irritating.
Its done intentionally to foment racism.
There it is, right off the bat. In the first words of the first sentence of the article. "Community organizer".
To call yourself a "parish proponent" is nice.
To identify as a "civic coordinator" would be okay.
To describe yourself as a "suburban supporter" is acceptable.
There is no greater indicator of worthless scum and villainy than the self-proclamation of "community organizer".
There are rich and deliberate undertones of bastardy and evil associated with the title of "community organizer". Even worse when the title is self-proclaimed, since the person has a de facto desire, by deliberately claiming the title, to wear the same mantle of anti-American, racist, communist, socialist, thief that was perfidiously worn by the likes of Alinsky and Obama.
Saul Alinsky was the original self-proclaimed "community organizer". He thought that, even as an adult, it was perfectly fine to steal, and bragged about developing a method to scam he was not only proud of, but propagated to like-minded people to defraud and swindle a privately run cafeteria. Not a school one, or a state/city/government one. A privately run one being run by some guy trying to make an honest living. And Alinsky proudly and publicly bragged about it later in life. I view that as no different than an adult who brags about doing sadistic things to insects and animals as a young kid. Same thing. The first self-proclaimed "community organizer".
Barack Obama is another case in point. He is a self-proclaimed "community organizer". He is also a grifter and post-turtle, placed on to of that post by the likes of Bill Ayers and Bernadette Dohrn. If that were all, it would be a low bar for Monifa Bandele to pass as an acolyte. But everything from giving guns to violent Mexican drug cartels to the spying on President Trump's campaign and framing General Flynn shows his character to be far more malign and vile than a standard grifting government leech, of which there are many. He is truly a "community organizer" in every sense of the designation. There is no greater reliable indicator of worthless, leeching, totalitarian, racist scum and villainy than the self-proclamation of "community organizer".
