Walgreens has closed 17 stores in Democrat-run San Francisco due to rampant shoplifting problems created by voters.
If you love watching Democrats get exactly what they voted for, read on… Feel-good stories don’t make me feel any gooder than this beauty…
By a margin of 60 to 40 percent, the idiots of California basically legalized shoplifting. Proposition 47, which passed in 2014, no longer made it a felony to steal if the value of what you steal doesn’t exceed $950. It’s also no longer a felony to receive stolen property valued at less than $950. And so…

“Guard said there was nothing he can do when people walk out of the store with a cart full of stuff.”
Doesn’t he have to ring it up first, to make sure it’s less than $950?
My first thought as well.
We opened a store in South Central LA after the riots and we had to take it out of all the reports as if it didn’t exist. Shrinkage was massive and the deposit never reconciled. If it ever showed up in a report, the President of the division would come unglued because it was his idea to open the store.
What would happen if a junkie trolling inside a Walgreen’s robbed a customer of his wallet, with $100 in it? Does the $950-and-below theft loophole only apply to robbing Walgreen’s property, or does it extend to robbing customers inside the Walgreen’s as well?
A sneaky way of implementing communism. Allow people to steal your property, then you don’t have any and that is the major goal of communism: eliminating private property.
Another way they gave away part of your property was by allowing tenants to not pay rent but still get an apartment free. This was done by taking away the right to evict.
Then they allowed criminals to riot and steal, as long as there were a few blm flags in the crowd.
I don’t disagree. But these type stores more or less have a hands-off policy. They have a token security guard who can only verbally accost thieves and call the police, who may or may not show up long after the thief has left. They can give copies of surveillance footage but beat cops aren’t going to go searching for them.
It is still a crime to shoplift. They (we, California) just reduced the penalties for theft under a certain amount, so now we have these serial shoplifters. Steal $900 or less from multiple stores and in the rare chance you are caught it’s a misdemeanor. I am not sure most shoplifters should be jailed (the criminal syndicates who resell the items should be, under RICO or similar statutes), but the state has plenty of flex to punish even the small time thief - stiffer fines, court costs, remuneration to the victim, loss of privileges such as drivers’ licences etc.
Legalize meth and decriminalize shoplifting. A marriage made in heaven. What could possibly go wrong?
I think that would be assault. But if I wrote you a bum check for $900, it would be a misdemeanor.
We had those here in Ohio. Seems that we didn’t like shopping there because the line at the pick up desks were very long. They did have a nice jewelry selection, though.
“...They said they only locked up the things that were most frequently stolen.”
When I was the head of loss prevention at a major retailer if shrink was over 1%, heads would roll. Inventory days were downright frightening to management. Now over 2% is considered acceptable.
Can we get back to hanging thiefs?
Every Democrat program has communism as its goal!
Retail stores just can’t win. Even when they try to just lock up commonly stolen items, they get accused of “racism” for securing black hair care products and such.
That wouldn't help. They would also have to prepay.
I have no ID what you're talking about...
See what I did there?...
Yep, that’s exactly what I see, too. It seems that every time I go into a store, they’ve installed yet another huge locked cabinet with merchandise in it. It’s a huge PITA to get a clerk to open it and hand you the product. Then, you walk to another part of the store and repeat with another not-to-be-found clerk. It’s utterly ridiculous.
I’m not sure robotic picking will make sense in a local retail establishment. The sales volume may not justify it. Which means that we will have to buy everything from Amazon. Amazon will build huge neighborhood warehouses with robotic picking and you’ll pick up your merchandise there.
but the DA’s will not prosecute.
“I have no ID what you’re talking about... “
Doesn’t merit any sort of reply of explanation.
The kid stealing some candy bar is not the problem. Although, if it gets away with it, it may repeat!
The problem are shoplifting gangs. They do not even shoplift for themselves. They are organized, steal the most expensive stuff and resell somewhere else. (Apparently even abroad!) Professional shoplifters, they are doing it as a job and they are very good at it!
Over the counter medications are the biggest targets. They are comparatively expensive, small and easily conceivable.
That’s why Walgreens/CVS are shutting down.
